Spiritual Dogs

Study No. 33

Philippians 3:2 warns us to "Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision." Galatians 5:15 adds, "But if ye bite and devour one another [like wild dogs], take heed that ye be not consumed one of another."

Today, there are many "outcasts of Israel" who will be gathered by the Messiah. The watchmen are blind and ignorant, like dumb dogs, sleeping when they should be awake. Greedy dogs these shepherds are, they all look out for themselves, for their own gain. They are spiritually drunk. This sorry spectacle, which describes today like a "T," is found in Isaiah 56:8-12.

Psalms 22:16, 20 prophesies of the Savior, "For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me . . . . Deliver my soul from the sword . . . from the power of the dog."

"Dogs" Despise God’s Truth

Matthew 7:6, "Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine . . . ." Holy things are of no value to spiritual dogs. Exodus 22:31, "And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs." We are to be holy and clean, not like a dog.

Dogs are compared to Gentiles who do not appreciate the truth of God, Matthew 15:26-27, "It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs . . . . yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table."

Dogs are compared to male prostitutes: Deuteronomy 23:18, "Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog [male prostitute], into the house of the LORD your God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God."

A dead dog is a thing of contempt, I Samuel 24:14, II Samuel 16:9. To consider oneself to be a dead dog is a sign of humility, II Samuel 9:8. Ecclesiastes 9:4, "a living dog is better than a dead lion." Workers of iniquity are compared to dogs, Psalms 59:2, 6-7.

Spiritual Dogs Give Up God’s Truth

Proverbs 26:11, "As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly."

Read II Peter 2:20-22, which describes the sorry condition of spiritual dogs who once knew God’s truth, but later rejected it and returned to the world. Don’t go back to the world once you are called to God’s Truth.

Revelation 22:14, 15 describes the blessed in God’s Kingdom who keep God’s Commandments, and have right to the tree of life. But without this realm are dogs, sorcerers, whoremongers, murderers, idolaters and liars.

Don’t be a spiritual dog. W
