In Search of . . . The Origin of Nations

Have you read Genesis 10’s Table of Nations, and wondered where all these peoples are today?  Since the Flood, all peoples have descended from Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.  Why does the Bible mention Nimrod, grandson of Ham, Genesis 10:6-10,and why does the Bible emphasize the line of Shem down through Abraham, 11:10-32?  Who are the fearsome Assyrians today, so prominently mentioned in Bible prophecy?  These, and many more questions are effectively answered in the new book, In Search of . . . The Origin of Nations, 492 pp., $25 from Giving & Sharing, PO Box 100, Neck City, MO 64849.

This well-researched book by History Research Projects is packed with charts, maps, and extensive footnotes, and has over 700 bibliographical references, yet is written in a clear, easy-to-understand style.  A key to understanding Bible prophecy is to identify the nations for which those prophecies are given.  Israel and Assyria are key players in end-time prophecy, and we need to know where they are today. Further information on the Origin of Nations may be found on their web site, www.originofnations.org.

Rather than supporting racism, identifying peoples of the earth shows the handiwork of the Creator God, and His purpose for mankind.  We need to know and appreciate our roots.  Today, sub-races and tribes are disappearing at an alarming rate, as the world hurtles toward globalization and the infamous, “universal man.”  Knowing from where we came, is essential to know where we are going.  The Eternal will preserve ethnic groups into the Millennium, Zechariah 14:16-19;Isaiah 19:23-25.

“Every nation, however small, is a unique part of God’s plan for mankind,” Alexander Solzhenitsyn.  “When a nation goes down [or] a society perishes, one condition may always be found.  They forgot where they came from,” Carl Sandberg.

14.The Assyrians in the Modern World!

A lot of space has been spent discussing the Assyrians in this book. Why? one may ask. This will become self-evident, but they were a very important and dominant people in the ancient Middle East and impact upon Israel to such a degree, that they must be traced and their descendants identified today.  Subtopics in this section include: Mysterious Origin of the Assyrians; The Fearsome Assyrians and their Migrations Into Central Europe; The Hittite Empire and the Modern Assyro-Hittites; What is Germany’s Destiny?

Assur is identified; his exploits in the years after Babel; his character, empire, and descendants all discussed. After his empire fell, his descendants were driven out of the Middle East and I trace them on their journey to where they reside today.

15. Israel — Successors of Arphaxad

After going into captivity, most of the peoples of Israel disappear from view — what became of them and what is their future? Why is Israel so important to God and why are they so emphasized in the Bible?

Biblical Doctrine

The fourth edition of our book, Biblical Doctrine, 80-pages, is now available.  Its fourteen chapters cover a wide range of topics:

The Importance of Doctrine.  “Doctrine” means the sum total of Bible teachings.  It is vital that we know true doctrine to be ready to give an answer of the hope within us.  Doctrinal truth without love is good for nothing.  What should be our attitude toward doctrinal statements?  What are the important doctrines?

Outline of True Biblical Doctrine.  Alphabetical listing and explanation of our fundamental beliefs.

Classic Doctrines of the Worldwide Church of God; Book Review: Mystery of the Ages, Herbert W. Armstrong’s last book; Outline and commentary of Doctrines of Ex-Worldwide Church Groups; Doctrines of the Church of God, Seventh Day; Doctrines of Sacred Name Groups; Doctrines of Seventh-day Adventists; What Does It Mean, “Hold Fast to That Which You Were Taught?”; Traditions in the Church of God; Doctrinal Changes and Liberalization; Doctrinal Changes of the Worldwide Church of God, Consequences of Our Doctrinal Beliefs.

The results, or consequences, of our doctrinal beliefs, will result in distinct attitudes and practices.  “A man really believes not what he recites in his creed, but only the things he is ready to die for,” Richard Wormbrand, Tortured for Christ, p. 62.

Dispel the Myth that the KJV is Hard to Understand

We encourage you to order, and read, the book, The Language of the King James Bible, $10 from Giving & Sharing.

The KJV has a built-in-dictionary, which defines each word as it is introduced.  The KJV uses powerful sound symbolism to communicate meaning. The KJV’s vocabulary is precise and internationally recognizable.  Much more information is given to demonstrate that the KJV is the easiest to read, and most reliable, English translation available.

What is a Real Christian?

In September, 2003, Garner Ted Armstrong died at the age of 73.  Many Sabbath-keepers today were introduced to God’s Truth by GTA’s silver-tongued voice on the “World Tomorrow” radio broadcast in the 1960s and 1970s.

Perhaps the most helpful article Garner Ted Armstrong wrote, was “What is a Real Christian?”

Feast Tapes

This year, we had a great Feast of Tabernacles in Bend/Redmond, Oregon.  We recommend three of the best sermons given at the Feast: “Purpose for Sacrifices in the Millennium,” by Rex Sexton, and “Humor in Millennium” and “Solomon’s Last Great Feast Message,” by Randy Stiver.

We would be pleased to share any of these tapes with you.  Got good sermons on tape?  Share them with us, and we will add them to our tape library.  Request Feast tapes, or send tapes to: G&S, 3316 Alberta Drive, Gillette, WY 82718.

As of press time, we are considering renewing our Friday night telephone Bible Studies.  Call 888-687-5191 for more information.

Seabiscuit: Overcoming Adversity

In 1938, a year of international turmoil, in the depths of the depression, times were tough.  Unemployment in America was 25%, and round steak cost 42 cents per pound (when a good wage was $1/day).  That year, the top newsmaker, was not President Franklin D. Roosevelt, nor Adolph Hitler.  It was not even a person.  It was an undersized, crooked legged, racehorse named Seabiscuit, owned by a former bicycle repairman turned automobile magnate, trained by a close-mouthed cowboy, and ridden by a half-blind failed prizefighter.

During that year, underdog Seabiscuit beat War Admiral (Triple Crown winner, reputed to be the best horse in America), setting a new track record for the 1 and 3/16 mile course at Pimlico, Maryland.  That race is still widely regarded as the greatest horserace in history.  Seabiscuit was not properly built for a fast horse: he was too short, too small, he ate too much for a thoroughbred, he slept too much, he played with his racing opponents, he and his rider suffered repeated injuries.  Yet, when the chips were down, Seabiscuit ran his heart out and never gave up.

In 1940, at the age of seven, Seabiscuit faced the unlikely prospect of competing in the Santa Anita Handicap for a $100,000 purse.  No elite horse had ever returned to top form after such a serious injury (ruptured tendon), and lengthy layoff.  Seabiscuit had worked hard to get back into shape.  Few great horses have competed after age five or through more than forty races, yet Seabiscuit was more than twice the age of many of the horses he would be facing, and he had already raced eighty-five times.  His impost, or weight assignment, was up to 20 pounds higher than his opponents.  His rider, Red Pollard, had sustained serious leg injuries.  Pollard’s leg was not yet healed, and if he was thrown again, he could be crippled for life.  Pollard wanted to ride Seabiscuit once again in another attempt to win the Santa Anita, which the horse had failed to win previously.  What a race!

The inspiring story of Seabiscuit is an example for us to be an overcomer.  I strongly recommend the movie, Seabiscuit, based on the best selling book by Laura Hillenbrand, Seabiscuit, an American Legend.  Both the book and the movie brought tears to me.  The story of Seabiscuit reminds me of the help God promises to give us underdogs to overcome and be in the Kingdom of God.  “He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son,” Revelation 21:7.  Let us run the race God has given us.  Hooray for Seabiscuit!

Home Remedies

Here are home remedies submitted by Dr. Barbara Boss, a naturopathic physician in South Africa.  Use at your own risk; let us know if these home remedies work for you.

Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately — without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional pain relievers.  So will a teaspoon of honey.

Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns?  So does cooking oil.

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They’ll clear up your stuffed nose; so will garlic, or a strong curry. [Caution: Altoids contain geletin, which may or not be made from pork.]

Achy muscles from a bout of the flu?  Mix one tablespoon of horseradish in 1/2 cup of olive oil.  Let the mixture sit for thirty minutes, then apply it as a massage oil, for instant relief for aching muscles.  Arnica or lavender do an admirable job as well.

Sore Throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take one tablespoon six times a day.  The vinegar kills the bacteria.  This is great for a coughs too.  Sage leaves are also a sore throat soother.

Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer.  Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly — even though the product has never been advertised for this use.

Eliminate puffiness under your eyes — all you need is a dab of preparation-H, carefully rubbed into the skin, avoiding the eyes. The hemorrhoid ointment acts as a vasoconstrictor, relieving the swelling instantly.

Honey remedy for skin blemishes — cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a Band-Aid over it.  Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing. Works overnight.

Listerine therapy for toenail fungus — get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again. Tea Tree Oil does it as well — makes you wonder whether you should be putting Listerine in your mouth!

Easy eyeglass protection — to prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.

Smart splinter remover — just pour a drop of Elmer’s Glue-all over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

Hunt’s tomato paste boil cure — cover the boil with Hunt’s tomato paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head. Ordinary brown bread and sugar will double for Hunt’s

Balm for broken blisters — to disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine, which is a powerful antiseptic. Artificial skin sprayed on keeps it cleaner longer, or use the gel squeezed from a bulbinella leaf.

Heinz vinegar to heal bruises — soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for one hour.  The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process. Don’t do this where the skin is close to bone — I nearly dissolved my knee.

Quaker Oats for fast pain relief — it’s not for breakfast anymore! Mix two cups of Quaker Oats and one cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for one minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.  You will only believe this when you try it!

Tips on How to Stay Young

Researches have found that people who generally live longer, do so partly because of good habits. Here, Dr. Vernon Coleman and others provide some of the following good habits for longevity.

1. Laugh and have fun, don’t be gloomy.

2. Let bygones be bygones. Dwelling on the past inflicts unnecessary stress.

3. Early to bed, early to rise, is healthy and wise.

4. Stay lean, being just 30% overweight is bad.

5. Keep learning, reading, socializing — this keeps brain cells healthy.

6. Keep working, doing something you like. Don’t retire. It slows down your wbody.

7. Be the boss of your own life. Letting others push you around produces stress.

8. Too many pills ruin your body. Take just what you need.

9. Constantly alternating between weight gain and loss is bad.

10. Exercise, quit smoking, and eat less fatty foods.

11. Do not worry about health or death, just get on with your life and enjoy it.

Recall of Human Beings

The Maker of all human beings is recalling all units manufactured, regardless of make or year, due to a serious defect in the primary and central component of the heart. This is due to a malfunction in the original prototype units code named Adam and Eve, resulting in the reproduction of the same defect in all subsequent units. This defect has been technically termed, “Subsequential Internal Non-morality,” or more commonly known as S.I.N. Some other symptoms: loss of direction, foul vocal emissions, amnesia of origin, lack of peace and joy, selfish, or violent behavior, depression or confusion in the mental component, fearfulness, idolatry, rebellion  (transgression of the Law I John 3:4).

The Manufacturer, who is neither liable nor at fault for this defect, is providing factory authorized repair and service free of charge to correct this SIN defect.

The Repair Technician, YAHSHUA, has most generously offered to bear the entire burden of the staggering cost of these repairs. There is no additional fee required.

The number to call for repair in all areas is: P-R-A-Y-E-R. Once connected, please upload your burden of SIN through the REPENTANCE procedure. Next, download ATONEMENT from the Repair Technician, YAHSHUA, into the heart component.

No matter how big or small the SIN defect is, YAHSHUA will replace it with: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Please see the operating manual, the B.I.B.L.E. (Believers Instructions By Laws for Everyone), for further details on the use of these fixes. As an added upgrade, the Manufacturer has made available to all repaired units a facility enabling direct monitoring and assistance from a resident Maintenance Technician, the Holy Spirit.  Repaired units need only make Him welcome and He will take up permanent residence on the premises!

WARNING: Continuing to operate the human being unit without correction voids any manufacturer warranties, exposing the unit to dangers and problems too numerous to list and will result in the human unit being permanently impounded.  For free emergency service, call on YAHWEH in the name of YAHSHUA Ha’Messiach

DANGER: The human being units not responding to this recall action will have to be scrapped in the fiery furnace. The SIN defect will not be permitted to enter the Kingdom of God, so as to prevent contamination of that facility.                                                                                  — adapted from the Internet Ω
