Psalm 124
Words: The
Psalter of the United Presbyterian Church of North America, 1887 ed.
1 Had not the Lord been on our side,
May Israel now say;
Had not the Lord been on our side,
When men rose us to slay;
2 They had us swallowed up alive,
When their fierce wrath did flame:
The waters had us drowned, our soul
Had sunk beneath the stream.
3 Then had the waters, swelling high,
Above our soul made way.
O bless the Lord, who to their teeth
Us gave not for a prey.
4 Our soul has, like a bird, escaped
The cruel fowler's snare;
The snare asunder broken is,
And we escaped are.
5 Our sure and all-sufficient help
Is in Jehovah's name;
His name who did the heav'n create,
And who the earth did frame.
